dark. loud. immersive. lÄrm, or >the black box< as hungarian clubbers started to call it is most definitely the hottest spot in budapests electronic music scene right now. the club now turned to local house-techno heads to create its first vinyl release with names such as imre kiss, route 8, andras toth or s.olbricht as a mission statement and the result is just like what they imagined: a compilation of 13 varied tracks from classic drum machinery through acidic house to toned-down thumpers which demonstrates the very attitude of lÄrm.

psyth launches with the debut ep from rob shields. with a delicate urgency driven by a pulsating post-punk bassline, shards lavishes layer upon rich layer of sound, evoking the cool grooves of peaking lights and chromatics, while a shimmering vocal sample from rebecca sawyer adds an otherworldly sense of longing that echoes through the soul of the release. silhouetted appears more conventional and dance-floor friendly next to shards, but under the surface is something unique and strangely exotic. a mantra-like melody loop gives a nod to minimalist composer terry riley and his solo organ works, while world instruments such as an african kalimba and tibetan singing bowl only heighten the hypnotic and intoxicating quality even further.

the untold stories: protagonist series. records dedicated to the stories of some venerable but unsung historical figures. the first of the protagonist series was created by sil, and gives a glimpse into the spirit of the first such figure: tadeush konrad. sil, the pseudonym of kirill sylantev, who is more widely known for his work in the duo easy changes, now begins solo productions. for the untldpro series his work dedicated to tadeush konrad is of confident vibe, with much swing and rich with soulful flashes from times past. this work is then remixed by ztrl and hubble. first comes the ztrl remix, with energetic bass and a wealth of tones interrelating to great hypnotic effect. then on the b-side hubble s remix, an extended work, a floating journey of warm organic sounds, concludes the story and the spirit of tadeush konrad.

refined selector and esteemed producer, steve braiden breaks out on his own with the off out label after some excellent releases for the likes of rush hour and joy orbison s now defunct doldrums label. its a good day when there is some new braiden productions to soak up, and hopefully the establishment of off out will see them appear with more regularity in the future. as an opening statement, apex of the sun s way is a powerful one indeed! the title track is characterised by the sort of rhythmic poise we have come to expect from a braiden production, with searing emotive textures rubbing up against some of the crispest drums heard this year. - solar poise- is equally memorable, with strange ghostly vocals trapped deep in the mix and an unpredictable synth careening around the channels.

surfacing from the back streets of greater mancunia, mystery artist belly arrives with the first record on their new belly dance label. with little more information to go on, let s focus on the music with the two original tracks from belly making for interesting listening. lead cut *dark autumn* is a slow beat sleaze production dominated by the vocals, big kicks and heavy synths that would go down well late into the night at horse meat disco. *farewell* is equally hard to pin down, taking on a more overtly hip hop style and is packed thick with textural and sampled detail. on the flip rob insinna turns in two new beat style remixes of *dark autumn* that will appeal to the more adventurous selectors.

demdike stare return to the lab with two extended new productions, inaugurating a series of untamed releases brought together under the testpressing banner. collision was recorded in late 2012 and is pretty much unlike anything you will have heard from demdike before, an intense high-frequency re-arrangement of jungle and noise, like a more brutal variant of the demdike-affiliated hate project, fed through a bank of analogue boxes and pedals, left to spin uncontrollably for 10 minutes before fading to black. misappropriation on the flip feeds off a different noise altogether, perched precariously between the mangled percussion you would most commonly associate with muslimgauze and the metallic clank of industry, a proper sunstroke riddim: angry and unforgiving.

nice price deal !!! aÑa / henning baer / norman nodge / musk.... no one knows exactly how, or why it happened. we can only postulate. perhaps it was rogue hydrogen atoms causing havoc again, or a particularly voracious wave of em radiation hell bent on finding a good time. the point is, (in those days) such lude behavior was simply unacceptable: aÑa had become excited, too much so for the solar stiffs that swirled about her. and that system of hers—always buzzing around, refusing to share anything—it had to go. so both were exiled from that collision patch they called home, leaving aÑa and her system to wander the cosmos. some years passed. aÑa grew a little, but mostly she practiced her basswalk—not this girly swooshy thing with your hips, but a real bolshy bovver boot stomp. after a while she got pretty good at it, she wanted to show her friends. maybe theyd like to basswalk too. well, they couldnt get enough of it—but no one did it quite like aÑa. henning baers had a bit more groove to it and this whole new tweaky hat element. norman nodge kept his pretty punchy, but all that time spent in berghain had turned his basswalk into a bit of a skulk. as for musk, the boys inverted the whole thing of course—turned a disco trick, shifting the march down into more of a slinky house glide. aÑa liked them all so much—and it was time isolated system stopped being such a separatist—she decided to gather them all together to make basswalker part i. now you can basswalk too
